Welcome to Birkelunden Bed & Breakfast

Birkelunden Bed & Breakfast, former Rjukan Gjestegård, is located at Rjukan in Telemark. You will find us in the center of the World Heritage town. This is the perfekt place to stay while exploring all the attratctions at our destination.

Birkelunden Bed & Breakfast has 18 doublerooms, two single rooms and one apartment with two bedrooms, 42 beds in total. Bed linen and towels are included in all rooms.

Birkelunden Bed & Breakfast is owned and operated by Arena kompetanse AS, which is a work and inclusion company, and offers work and work training for people that needs some support with work tasks.

There is self-check-in at Birkelunden Bed & Breakfast. You will therefore be able to check in whenever you want after 15:00.
You will get an email and/or SMS with link to the guestportal 2 hours before check-in opens (aprrox. 13:00). Here you will get information about how the self-check-in system works.

Our rooms

Double room with bathroom

We have 4 double rooms with private bathrooms, TV, fridge and a sitting area with armchairs. All rooms are on the 2nd floor.
The rooms are fully furnished.
You can book a room with breakfast, or without. In the period of June 23rd- August 17th breakfast is included.

Double room without bathroom

All 16 rooms without a bathroom have been refurbished in 2024. The rooms have a sink and mirror, a fridge and a small cafe table with chairs. The beds can be moved apart, and some of the rooms have space for a cot or extra bed. Dogs are welcome in some of the rooms on the ground floor. Three of the rooms are somewhat smaller, and the beds are against the wall. There are also no tables and chairs in two of the rooms.

Toilets and showers are in the corridor and are shared with other rooms on the floor.
The rooms are fully furnished.
You can book a room with breakfast, or without. In the period of June 23rd- August 17th breakfast is included.

Single room without bathroom

We have two single rooms without a bathroom. The rooms have been refurbished in 2024. The rooms have a sink and mirror, a fridge and a chair. The bed is 90 cm wide.

Toilets and showers are in the corridor and are shared with other rooms on the floor.
The rooms are fully furnished.
You can book a room with breakfast, or without. In the period of June 23rd- August 17th breakfast is included.

Apartment

The large apartment has a total of 6 beds. There are two bedrooms with double beds. In the separate living room there is a sofa bed with room for two people. From one bedroom there is access to a private terrace facing the river Måna. The apartment has its own entrance from the outside, ample walking space, a well-equipped kitchen and a bathroom with shower.

In the apartment, it is planned that you make your own arrangements, but bed linen and towels are ready for you to make your bed. Breakfast is not included, but you can of course order this at the reception. The apartment is priced per room. Price for 1-2 people is for one bedroom. Price for 3-4 people is for two bedrooms.

Breakfast

Breakfast is included in all room bookings in the summerseason (June 23rd – August 17th). The rest of the year you can order a room with or withour breakfast. Breakfast is not included for the apartment, but can be ordered at the reception. We serve breakfast between 8 and 10. If you need breakfast before 8 o’clock, we will make a separate agreement for that.

There are several restaurants, fast food outlets and grocery stores in the neighborhood which means that you have a good offer for both lunch and dinner.

Practical information

We are onsite working days Monday-Friday 8-15 . During the summer holiday( we will be there more.

The email and telephone are manned every day 8am-5:30pm. There is self-check-in to the rooms, so you can check-in whenever you want after 3pm. There is free Wifi access.

Shared showers and toilets are on the ground and 1st floor. Toilets are also in the basement. Here you also have access to a drying room.

If you come by car or motorcycle, we have free parking right outside. It is walking distance to several charging stations for electric cars, and 100 meters to the bus station.

There are seating areas by the reception, and in the basement you will find a shared TV room with a fireplace. The dining room is open during breakfast. Outside there are seating areas and green areas where you can relax.

We are an Eco-Lighthouse company and are constantly working to improve our environmental work. Among other things, we have made arrangements so that our guests can also sort at the source.

At the award-winning interactive exhibition Hardangervidda National Park Centre, you can learn about the  nature and the wild reindeer that habits on Hardangervidda.
